1. A Necessary Disruption
Look,
I'm guessing your immediate reaction after reading this article's header was probably a mix of annoyance and confusion.
Since streaming is the primary method of music consumption most of us are used to, it's natural that looking elsewhere feels unconventional and inconvenient. To some of you who rely on central hubs like Spotify or Apple Music to manage your libraries, this can even feel catastrophic. You might even think that I am doing myself a disservice, making my career harder than it needs to be.
This move is intentional disobedience to the system, not ignorance of it. Let's go.
2. Understand the System I am Opting Out Of
Streaming platforms have become the default gateway between artists and listeners. On the surface, they offer reach, accessibility, and the promise of discovery.
But underneath that, there’s a structure that shapes everything.
A system where:
• Millions of streams translate into relatively small financial return
• Algorithms decide visibility more than intention
• Volume is rewarded more than depth
In that environment, music becomes shallow washed out content. And content becomes useless.
The pressure is subtle but real, artists are now compelled to:
• Chase what’s trending
• Shorten attention spans
• Dilute song messages for mass appeal
The question I had to ask myself as an artist and creator was simple:
Is visibility the same as impact?
Because if the system(streaming platforms) amplifies you but negatively reshapes you in the process, then you’re not really being heard—you’re being adjusted. Artists are not creating anymore, but instead are just reproducing, and this kills the God given capacity of creativity in the long run. Most people who just enjoy listening to music might not realize this.
3. The Kingdom Perspective: Assignment Over Attention
When you move with a Kingdom mindset like I do, your decisions are not driven by attention—they’re driven by assignment. You don’t just ask, “Will this reach more people?” You ask, “Is this aligned with what I was sent to do?”
The Kingdom operates on different principles:
• Purpose over popularity
• Stewardship over influence
• Obedience over validation
There is a path the industry(streaming platforms) rewards—maximize reach, stay visible, feed the system.
And then there is another path(The Kingdom path)—maximize impact, protect the message, build with intention.
This project forced me to choose.
As an artist and a devout citizen of the Kingdom, I choose the latter.
4. Why Mboa Drill Requires a different Approach:
Mboa Drill is not just a collection of songs.
It’s a statement. It’s identity. It’s culture translated through sound.
This project took me over 25 years to realize. It is rooted in identity, place, and culture. It carries narrative, depth, and intention that can be lost in passive streaming.
MBOA Drill is not background music. It’s not something you play halfway while scrolling. It’s something that demands presence. It asks you to listen, to think, to engage.
But streaming platforms are built for passive consumption. Quick skips. Endless playlists. Surface-level interaction.
That environment strips context.
And without context, a project like this loses weight.
MBOA Drill is meant to be experienced—not just consumed.
5. Ownership, Control, and Direct Connection:
There’s another layer to this decision: ownership.
Imagine you have limitless funds.
You are given two options:
Option 1: Stay in a luxurious 2 bedroom rental apartment. The building offers amenities like; a bar, a swimming pool, a gym, a basketball court, etc. But it has many restrictions;
-Limited access to the swimming pool
-Limited number of people allowed in the apartment (meaning you can’t invite friends for a party or to watch a football game).
-No loud music/noise allowed
-Limited car parking space (1 car per resident but you own 3)
You already see the inconveniences of such a residence. It's comfortable but access and control is limited, just like on streaming platforms.
Option 2 : Build your dream house. With all the amenities you get in the luxurious rental. Available whenever you desire, unrestricted, and unbothered. With a large parking for all your 3 cars and even more.
When you rely fully on streaming platforms, you’re renting space, just like the luxurious rental apartment.
You don’t control access.
You don’t control data.
And most importantly—you don’t control the relationship with your audience.
I’m choosing to build that relationship directly.
To know who is listening. To speak to them without filter
That’s a exactly what ownership and control for an independent artist is like. No restrictions. No middleman or third party taking cuts on creations you worked hard for. This is the direction we are taking with MBOA Drill.
Being truly independent is building your own dream house(owning your distribution). It's total control. It's having direct connection with your audience.
Connection is what carries longevity.
6. Testing a New Model: Faith + Strategy
Let me be clear. This is not rebellion for the sake of being different.
This is a calculated move. It’s strategy, guided by conviction.
Yes, there are risks:
• Less immediate exposure
• Slower growth in numbers
• Fewer casual listeners
But the upside is:
• A stronger core audience
• People who are invested, not just entertained
• A foundation that can actually sustain something long-term
This approach is not for everyone and that's okay.
If you’re looking for trends and viral moments this might not be for you.
But if you’re looking for depth…If you value intention…If you’re willing to engage, not just consume…
Then you’ll understand exactly what this is.
I’m not chasing everyone. I’m building with the ones who see the vision.
Join the Movement
This is more than a release strategy. It’s a movement.
Through the blogs, the visuals, the sound—you’re not just observing the project. You’re stepping into it.
So if you concur with this:
• Follow the journey
• Engage with the content on my social pages
• Be part of what’s being built
Become more than just a spectator. Become a participant.
Success, for me, is alignment. It’s impact. It’s staying true to the assignment and seeing it land where it’s supposed to land.
This is not a rejection of streaming platforms. It’s a commitment to purpose. It's your boy Kahahahaf...
